The development of Caroline took several years, with 18 months dedicated to research and ideation. Utility and design patents were filed in August 2008, and testing took an additional 2-1/2 years. The first Kindle Living Heater, Allison, was introduced in 2010, and Caroline followed in 2013. The entire design, testing, manufacture, and operations for Kindle Living are based in Los Angeles.

Caroline Heater has received recognition for its outstanding design and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2015.
